The Details

When we first arrived at Gymea Bay the backyard was a construction zone with renovations and a new pool and undercover outdoor area being built. We installed dry stack retaining walls around the balcony initially to incorporate the beautiful native plants which surround the yard.

We then returned to build an area for the family to be able to use their fire pit whilst taking in the breath taking views of Gymea Bay which their home overlooks. As the backyard is on quiet a steep block we continued on from the initial garden beds with a dry stack retaining wall giving the family another level area to further utilise more of the large backyard. Two flights of stairs were added on either side of the area to create an easy access to the yard as well as rustic steps to lead down to the lower levels.

We came up with the concept of finishing the area off with sandstone crazy paving so there is no maintenance needed and finished with arc shaped garden beds on two sides. We then added timber garden boxes and travertine steppers to create an easy flow through to the side access of the home.

It was timed perfectly with the upcoming cool weather to be able to sit around the fire and relax with a glass of wine while roasting marshmallows with the family.
